Stone Garden | South Kingstown, Rhode Island

A flat, un-utilized side-yard was transformed into this enchanting stone garden with connected gravel and granite stepping stone pathways leading you through the space, blending rustic, natural beauty and artistic expression thanks to unique sculptures, plantings, and decor. At the heart of the garden, we built a recessed area featuring a captivating bubbler fountain, gracefully crafted from a majestic weathered boulder. The gentle trickling sound of water creates a soothing ambiance, inviting you to relax and unwind in this tranquil oasis, which can also be heard from the home’s two-story back deck. Other features include a custom millstone sculpture and a granite mounted steel sculpture, taking this space from a plain, grassy area to a more environmentally conscious and sustainable stone hardscape.

Attention to detail.

Beach pebble details bring a pop of color and texture to the shimmering granite stepping stone path, along with joint plantings. The beach pebble inlay also plays off of an existing backsplash in the homeowner’s outdoor kitchen space, tying the two spaces together.

Every element of the garden was thoughtfully chosen to create a seamless integration between the natural and the artistic. The homeowner’s personal collection of whimsical sculptures, handcrafted from iron and Minnesota fieldstone by Charles Adams and Thomas Widhalm of Francis Metal Works, are featured throughout the space. The interplay of textures, colors, and shapes fosters a meditative atmosphere, inviting you to wander along the winding paths and discover moments of serenity, introspection, and inspiration.

Lush and vibrant purple perennial salvia begins to flourish against a rustic backdrop of a fieldstone wall, showing unique texture and detail in the joints.

Amidst the rustic backdrop of the fieldstone walls that frame the garden, bursts of vibrant color emerge from carefully curated and placed perennial plantings, like these purple Salvia and Exbury Azaleas.

This large, weathered boulder was carefully selected from a local quarry for its unique shape and texture, before being hand-drilled to create a custom bubbler fountain. The design  combines the primal allure of a majestic boulder with the graceful flow of water, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the symphony of nature and find solace in the beauty of this enchanting oasis.
